Broadband Stimulus Program
On February 19, 2009 President Obama signed the most sweeping economic recovery package in United States history. As the first dollars of the Stimulus Bill begin to flow into the national economy, one of the most immediate local impacts will be produced by the $7.2 billion for broadband communications and networks projects. This grant program, the Broadband Stimulus, is administered jointly by the Departments of Commerce and Agriculture. The purpose of the Broadband Stimulus is to accelerate capital investment to provide access to broadband technology in unserved/underserved areas, promote broadband use for the public good (healthcare, education, and public safety), and create jobs in the local community.
